Old news by now, but the USI men’s basketball team rose from sixth to fifth in the latest Division II Midwest Region rankings. That’s good in that the Eagles probably have locked up a spot in the Midwest Regional regardless of what they do in the GLVC Tournament at the Ford Center. Still, there are no guarantees where the regional rankings are involved. Eight teams receive regional berths. If USI would lose big to Lewis in its opener, well, better not think about that, although I don’t think the Eagles would drop much. But a win or two (or three for a title) may not move them up, either (although I think if they run the table they’ll get at least the No. 3 seed, maybe even the 2). For the record, Drury remained No. 1 in the rankings, with Bellarmine No. 2, followed by the GLIAC’s Michigan Tech, Wisconsin-Parkside, USI, Indianapolis, Wayne State, Lewis, Kentucky Wesleyan and Findlay from the GLIAC.
