USI’s women’s basketball team is still undefeated, through Thursday night anyway. It’s 11-0 start now equals the 1997-98 team that finished 26-2 overall and 17-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. USI continues winning despite a slump by former leading scorer Stephanie Carpenter, who managed just seven points against Illinois-Springfield, going 2-for-6 from the field and hitting nary a 3-pointer in three tries. Meanwhile, today’s opponent, Quincy, has won three of the last four meetings between these teams, but they haven’t played each other since the 2010-11 season (Quincy won 92-81 at home that year).
By the way, Anna Hackert, if she keeps playing like she has, would have to be a shoo-in for first team all-GLVC. She’s already posted double-figure scoring games in her last seven contests, with three double-doubles in points and rebounds and more on the way.
