USI women’s basketball coach Rick Stein told me that Jessica Parker never actually did anything to sustain the injury to her right knee that’s going to keep her out of the lineup for a while. “It started to hurt two days ago after practice,” he said on Monday. “There’s not a time she could think of when it happened. We’ll have her checked out.”
Parker, a 6-foot junior transfer, has been averaging 7.4 points while shooting 40 percent (12-for-30) from 3-point range. Although primarily a wing or perimeter player, despite her height, she’s also become a respectable rebounder inside, averaging 3.5 per game. Stein doesn’t think the injury will end her season but doesn’t know for sure until a doctor examines her. “I think her game the last couple of weeks has really started to shine,” he said. “She’s been one of our most consistent players.”
Parker has also passed out 18 assists this season while committing only six turnovers and has played not only shooting guard but small forward and power forward.
