Bad news for the USI women’s basketball team. Jessica Parker, a 6-foot junior transfer who has been lighting it up from 3-point range, sustained a knee injury during practice this week. But apparently it’s not serious enough to end her season. Word from the sports information office and coach Rick Stein is that Parker is day to day. She’s averaging 7.4 points and 3.5 rebounds, but her best stat is she’s averaging 40 percent (12-for-30) from 3-point range — that’s second on the team behind Stephanie Carpenter, who’s shooting 47.2 percent (25-for-53).
USI (8-0) is the only undefeated team left in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, with the league season beginning in earnest on Thursday. That’s when the Eagles open their GLVC schedule by hosting Missouri-St. Louis (5-4 overall, 0-1 in the GLVC).
