Comparing statistics is tricky. But USI’s women’s basketball team has some of the best numbers in the Great Lakes Valley Conference before the league season begins in earnest on Jan. 3.
This week, USI leads the conference in scoring offense (83.0 points per game), scoring margin (plus-29.0 points), field-goal percentage (47.7 percent), assists average per game (20.3), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3) and defensive rebounds per game (30.9). Individually, Stephanie Carpenter continues to lead in 3-pointers per game (3.1) and is tied for the lead in 3-pointers made (25, tied with Drury’s Katie Pritchard).
Again, the Eagles haven’t played anybody respectable, other than Cedarville. But in that game they played as well as they have against all those previous teams with losing records. We’ll see if that translates into conference play.
