With senior forward Keith DeWitt returning to the lineup on Friday at the Fern Valley Hotel Classic in Louisville, USI’s men’s basketball team is healthy now, with one exception: junior backup point guard DeAndre McCamey will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. McCamey hasn’t played much (only 7.7 minutes per game over 3 games, with zero points and three assists), but he was supposed to be the backup at the point that coach Rodney Watson said his team sorely needed. Now that will fall to redshirt freshman Evan Brinkmeyer, said Watson. So far, Brinkmeyer is averaging 1.6 points and 1.8 assists over five games; he’s 1-for-5 from the field, including 0-for-1 from 3-point range — all that over 12.4 minutes per game. Expect that last stat to go up.
