The match up: Indiana vs. Syracuse

WASHINGTON, D.C – It’ll all come down to Indiana’s ability to stretch Syracuse’s defenders out of their comfort zone tonight.
The East topseeded Hoosiers (29-6) and the fourth-seeded Orange (28-9) meet in a Sweet 16 NCAA tournament game at approximately 8:45 p.m., or 30 minutes after the Marquette and Miami contests.
CBS is televising the Indiana and Syracuse game.
Syracuse, which employs a 2-3 matchup zone, uses its length and quickness to make it difficult for teams to penetrate or hit 3-pointers – both of which are offensive strengths for the Hoosiers.
Indiana is sixth in the nation in field goal percentage (48.6) and third in 3-point field goal percentage (40.8).
Syracuse is third in field goal percentage defense (37.3) and sixth in 3-point field goal percentage defense (28.9).
But then, the Hoosiers aren’t too shabby on defense, either. IU ranks No. 31 in field goal percentage defense (30.3) and No. 20 in 3-point field goal percentage defense (38.9).
And the Orange isn’t nearly as efficient offensively, they are 175th in 3-point field goal percentage – even though they have taken more shots from behind the arc than Indiana. The Hoosiers are 254 of 622, while the Orange are 221 of 655 for 33.7 percent.
On all shots, Syracuse ranks just No. 126 with 44.1 percent accuracy – five spots lower than the University of Evansville’s 44.2 percent shooting.
Syracuse averages nine steals, which is tied for 14th in the country, and has forced opponents to commit 15.5 turnovers per game
The Orange starting lineup of 6-foot-4 Brandon Triche, 6-6 Michael Carter-Williams, 6-8 C.J. Fair, 6-8 Jerami Grant and 6-9 Rakeem Christmas will cause problems, though.
Syracuse averages nine steals, which is tied for 14th in the country, and has forced opponents to commit 15.5 turnovers per game
They average 6.1 blocks and 9.0 steals. Indiana averages 3.6 blocks and 7.1 steals.
