Make your prep football picks for Week 3

REITZ (1-1) at CASTLE (1-1), 7 p.m. Friday
The Panthers will do their best to try to spoil a special night when Castle will name its field “John Lidy Field” after its retired coach. They just might have the skill players to do do. The Knights have won the last two in this series, but are no longer a powerhouse. They are ranked No. 9 in Class 5A, on reputation. Reitz is No. 10 in 4A.

Prediction: Reitz 27, Castle 24

BOSSE (1-1) at CENTRAL (2-0), 7 p.m. Friday
Of all of the SIAC openers, this could be the most fun to watch. There should be points galore and Bosse’s Carrington Crutcher and Central’s Avion Sullivan are two of the finest running backs in the southern half of the state. The Bulldogs have scored 110 points in two games; Central has done even better, with 121.

Prediction: Central 49, Bosse 42

HARRISON (1-0) vs. MATER DEI (2-0), 7 p.m. Friday, Reitz Bowl
MD coach Mike Goebel rarely has a gamebreaking WR like Julian Weidner and said he has never had such a huge offensive line in his 17 years as head coach. That spells trouble for Harrison, which was idle last week.

Prediction: Mater Dei 35, Harrison 14

NORTH (1-1) vs. MEMORIAL (0-2), 7 p.m. Friday, Enlow Field
In Jasper and Belleville (Ill.) West, Memorial may have faced the toughest nonconference schedule of any SIAC team. North is not in that category, but still probably has what it takes to keep the Tigers winless.

Prediction: North 28, Memorial 21

Last week: 6-1
Overall: 12-3

  1. Man, what a GREAT Labor Day weekend! I watched tons of football, ate tons of Burgoo, drank tons of beer, rode the Rascal all over the place and only had one case of Heat Exhaustion that required hospitalization. All in all….a good 4 days!
Reitz vs. Castle at Warrick Co. Waterworks Stadium
The Squires are terrible. The RHS boys aren’t much better. The highlight of the evening will be the naming of the field after J. Lidy. I’m sure it will be a touching event and all, but the name on the field doesn’t make the Squires play better. And Gordy…both teams are ranked on their reputation. Neither team could compete with the ranked teams of the state this year.
    RHS 24 Squires 10

Bosse vs. Central @ Original Vida Robinson Memorial Stadium
The BooDawgs and the Honey Boo Boo’s both LOVE to play offense. The BooDawgs and the Honey Boo Boo’s HATE to play defense. Thus, in order to save EVSC budget money and time, both teams will only dress offensive players for this week’s game. However, in a very odd twist, the Boo Boo’s win after the BooDawgs are forced to punt after getting 3 consecutive holding calls against the air…
    Boo Boo’s-96 BooDawgs 90

Harrison vs. Mater Dei @ Mike Goebel Field at Frank Will Bowl
How do you have an IDLE week in Indiana High School Football? This isn’t the NFL/NCAA where you have an off week scheduled. I’m gathering that the team they were scheduled to play saw that the Injuns won in week 1 and got scared and backed out of the game. That only leaves one question….how bad was the team that backed out of a football game against Harrison?
    Kitty Kats 42 Injuns 13

North vs. Memorial @ Ken Dilger Field at Rico Killebrew Memorial Stadium
The injury at QB for the Tiggers showed last week in the game against Belleville. (I should know, I sold most of my Burgoo at this game). The Fat Dogs have looked good the 1st two weeks, but fell apart at the end last week against the mediocre HC Kernals. This one is close…
    Tiggers 21 Fat Dogs 14

    Bonus EJFL Picks:
    Bears over the Lions 6-0
    Vikings over the Chargers 18-13
    Saints over the Raiders 14-12
    Cowboys over the Packers 24-6

FYI…I may put hydraulics on the Rascal….how sick would that be?
