REITZ (1-1) at CASTLE (1-1), 7 p.m. Friday
The Panthers will do their best to try to spoil a special night when Castle will name its field “John Lidy Field” after its retired coach. They just might have the skill players to do do. The Knights have won the last two in this series, but are no longer a powerhouse. They are ranked No. 9 in Class 5A, on reputation. Reitz is No. 10 in 4A.
Prediction: Reitz 27, Castle 24
BOSSE (1-1) at CENTRAL (2-0), 7 p.m. Friday
Of all of the SIAC openers, this could be the most fun to watch. There should be points galore and Bosse’s Carrington Crutcher and Central’s Avion Sullivan are two of the finest running backs in the southern half of the state. The Bulldogs have scored 110 points in two games; Central has done even better, with 121.
Prediction: Central 49, Bosse 42
HARRISON (1-0) vs. MATER DEI (2-0), 7 p.m. Friday, Reitz Bowl
MD coach Mike Goebel rarely has a gamebreaking WR like Julian Weidner and said he has never had such a huge offensive line in his 17 years as head coach. That spells trouble for Harrison, which was idle last week.
Prediction: Mater Dei 35, Harrison 14
NORTH (1-1) vs. MEMORIAL (0-2), 7 p.m. Friday, Enlow Field
In Jasper and Belleville (Ill.) West, Memorial may have faced the toughest nonconference schedule of any SIAC team. North is not in that category, but still probably has what it takes to keep the Tigers winless.
Prediction: North 28, Memorial 21
Last week: 6-1
