Thomas officially named North’s boys’ basketball coach

Andre Thomas was named North High School’s boys basketball coach at Monday’s EVSC board meeting.
He guided Bosse’s girls’ basketball team to a 49-44 record in four seasons, including a Class 3A sectional championship and an 18-7 record in 2013. Thomas also served as Bosse’s football coach, posting a 12-31 mark in four years. The Bulldogs finished 7-5 and advanced to the 3A sectional title game in 2013.
Ever since he began his coaching career nine years ago, Thomas’ goal has been to become a boys’ varsity basketball coach and now his dream is realized.
“Everything in my life I did in Florida, and everything I’ve done here was to one day being a boys’ (head) coach,” Thomas said.
A Harrison High School graduate, Thomas was an assistant boys’ basketball coach and assistant football coach for four years at West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Florida, before returning to Evansville to coach at Bosse.
Thomas, 33, played college football at the University of Toledo and college basketball at John A. Logan, a junior college in Carterville, Illinois, and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
He replaces Scot Bunnell, who resigned his position last month. He led the Huskies to a 45-60 record in six seasons.
