Princeton junior guard Jackie Young scored 17 of her game-high 26 points in the first half to eclipse the 2,000-point barrier in the host Tigers’ 53-36 victory over Jasper on Thursday night.
Young, who long ago became Gibson County’s career scoring leader regardless of gender, now has 2,001 points.
“It was great,” said Young, a Notre Dame commit who was averaging 32.8 points entering the game. “Honestly, coming into the game I wasn’t thinking about breaking the record. My teammates were feeding me and my shot was falling in the first half. I was just playing my normal game. I was not getting all hyped up about breaking a record. I let it come to me.”
Princeton, ranked No. 4 in Class 3A, improved to 21-1 overall and wrapped up the Big Eight title with a perfect 6-0 mark. Jasper is 10-12, 4-2.
