HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREDICTION BLOG FOR SIAC – WEEK 6
CASTLE (3-2, 2-1) vs. MATER DEI (5-0, 3-0), 7 p.m. Friday, Reitz Bowl, Game of the Week
Castle could be the only thing that stands between Mater Dei and an unbeaten record entering its regular-season finale against Reitz on Oct. 17. To hear Wildcats coach Mike Goebel tell it, Castle is stronger and faster. But, as you probably know, Mater Dei has made a habit out of beating more physically talented teams through the years. And many of those teams did not have game-breaker such as Julian Weidner, who returns after missing last week’s 28-10 victory over North with a muscle strain in his right leg. This could be the best SIAC matchup of the season, so far. Last year, Mater Dei prevailed, 31-24. The ‘Cats are ranked No. 1 in Class 2A. I’m picking MD, primarily because the game is at the Bowl, not John Lidy Field.
Prediction: Mater Dei 28, Castle 27
BOSSE (1-4, 0-3) at NORTH (1-4, 1-2), 7 p.m. Friday
North has improved in the past couple of weeks while the Dawgs are treading water, at best. Bosse has to stop hurting itself – it committed 13 penalties for 107 yards in its 35-14 loss to Memorial last week.
Prediction: North 28, Bosse 21
HARRISON (2-3, 0-3) at CENTRAL (3-2, 1-2), 7 p.m. Friday
After back-to-back losses, the Bears plan to get back on the winning track against Harrison, which has probably lost quarterback Ryan Hales for the season with a leg injury. Earlier in the year, MD coach Mike Goebel said Hales may be the best QB in the league.
Prediction: Central 35, Harrison 21
REITZ (5-0, 3-0) vs. MEMORIAL (2-3, 2-1), 7 p.m. Friday, Owen Stadium
After a slow start, the Tigers have improved the past couple of weeks. QB Will Durchholz threw three scoring passes in last week’s 35-14 victory over Bosse. But Memorial was dogged by 10 penalties for 73 yards. The Tigers will have to play mistake-free football in order to have any hopes of staying in the game against Reitz, up to No. 4 in Class 4A.
Prediction: Reitz 35, Memorial 17
Last week: 4-0
