The records keep piling up for Maura Muensterman.
It wasn’t that long ago that Mater Dei’s senior sensation set a new Southern Indiana Athletic Conference all-time girls’ scoring record.
Now, she also owns Indiana’s girls’ career assist mark. Muensterman, a leading Miss Basketball candidate, had seven assists in the Wildcats’ 72-33 romp over visiting Heritage Hills Monday night to boost her career total to 704, according to Hickoryhusker.com.
“What differentiates her from other big scorers is usually you won’t see the assist total with it,” said Mater Dei coach Steve Goans. “Sometimes I think she passes too much. Yet she is averaging 23 (points), so it’s hard to make that comment. She’s just a special player who doesn’t come around very often.”
Muensterman’s 8.9 assist average leads Indiana and is fifth in the nation, according to MaxPreps.com.
She surpassed Indiana’s previous all-time assist record of 703, set by Cara Stuckey of Terre Haute South. Stuckey graduated in 1999.
Muensterman had 29 points Monday as Class 3A No. 2-ranked Mater Dei improved to 17-1. She increased her career total to 2,109, 17th on Indiana’s all-time list. Well within her sights is Lisa Shepherd of Richmond, who had 2,140 before graduating in 1997.
