Pick your sectional championship game winners

IHSAA SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND

NORTH (3-7) at No. 2 TERRE HAUTE NORTH (8-2), 6:30 p.m. CST Friday, Class 5A Sectional 16
Comparative scores don’t mean much, but are fun to look at. While TH North beat Castle twice and Castle beat North, consider that North defeated TH South twice and TH South beat TH North 28-24 back in August. TH North is seeking its first sectional title since 1986 while the North Huskies are seeking a monumental upset.

Prediction: TH North 38, North 21

REITZ (8-3) at No. 6 JASPER (10-1), 7 p.m. CST Friday, Class 4A Sectional 24
Last year, Jasper was on the verge of blowing out the Panthers in the sectional title game at Alumni Stadium. But Reitz scored before half to narrow the margin to 17-7. The Panthers never led until Zach Phillips kicked a 34-yard field goal with 9.1 seconds left to give them a 31-30 victory. Jasper has not won a sectional title since 2008 and is sick and tired of losing to Evansville schools in the sectional – especially Reitz. Expect another close game in this classic rematch. Jasper’s rock-ribbed defense could prove to be the difference.

Prediction: Jasper 24, Reitz 21

BOSSE (7-4) at No. 2 GIBSON SOUTHERN (11-0), 7 p.m. Friday, Class 3A Sectional 32
Carrington Crutcher had a monster game against Princeton, leaving him just 97 yards shy of 2,000 for the season. He will need another spectacular game for Bosse to pull off an upset at Fort Branch. Gibson Southern QB Nick Sellers is the real deal and so is coach Nick Hart.

Prediction: Gibson Southern 42, Bosse 33

No. 1 MATER DEI (11-0) at No. 6 SOUTHRIDGE (9-2), 6:30 p.m. CST Friday, Class 2A Sectional 40
Last year, Mater Dei edged the Raiders 22-15 in the first round. Last week, the Wildcats fell behind Sullivan 13-0 last week before taking control. Coming off an injury, Nolan Goebel gained 239 yards rushing and scored three TDs. Expect MD to win its fifth consecutive sectional title.

Prediction: Mater Dei 34, Southridge 21

Last week: 6-1
Overall: 48-8

  1. EXCITEMENT IS IN THE AIR!!!! This Friday will mark the halfway point of the 2013 IHSAA tournament sponsored by the Indianapolis Colts and to be quite frank with you, I am completely surprised by the teams that are still alive in this thing!
Before we get to the picks, I thought I would update you on what’s going on with me.
So last week, I told you that my wife left me a few months ago for my neighbor down the street. It was completely devastating. I mean, my wife was no peach, but at least it gave me someone to argue over the remote with and to discuss my favorite periodical, Scooter Enthusiast Monthly. Well the news got worse yesterday, as I was informed that she has stopped paying the rent on our house and that I am getting evicted. Does anyone know if the YMCA has the proper and adequate scooter parking for my baby? I cannot stand another loss right now.

North vs. Terre Haute North at Wolf Auto Auction Stadium
The Fighting Szabo’s are still alive and there is not a SOUL on this planet that saw this coming. I mean, they are terrible. They now get to roll North to Terre Haute where they will not only battle the #2 ranked Patriots but also the terrible, terrible stench that is the air of this Godforsaken dump of a town. Both of these obstacles prove to be too much, as the Patriots break the 27 year slump in easy fashion.
    THN 41 North 17

Reitz vs. Jasper at Ken Dilger/Jay Cutler Field at The Schnitzelbank Stadium
The RHS Boys travel to the land of sausages to play the 6th ranked Wildcats, who are looking for REVENGE! RHS is playing really well right now and seem to have peeked at the right time. I smell an upset cooked in Sauerkraut!
    RHS 27 Schnitzels 19

Bosse vs. Gibson Southern at Nick Hart Stadium
The BooDawgs have shown some firepower the last few weeks, thanks to Superback Carrington Crutcher. The Titans have been explosive on offense all season long, but have honestly only played 4 teams with winning records this season. Their opponents combined record this season is 45-79. And there is no way any of them had the speed of C. Crutcher.
BooDawgs live to play another day!
    Bosse 38 GS 27

Mater Dei vs. Southridge at Gordon St. Angelo Stadium.
The #6 ranked Raiders and their Dark uniforms welcome the Top Ranked Kitty Kats to their lil’ patch of dirt in Huntingburg. The Raiders have played a schedule with a combined record of 54-61, but have had quite a few nail biters mixed in. The Kitties had a rough first half last week against Sullivan, but work up in the 2nd Half and pulled away. Both teams are potent with both the pass and run, but the Kitties size proves to be the difference…
    Kitties 42 Raiders 20

I will be heading to the RHS vs. Jasper game this week as I can NEVER pass up an opportunity to eat at the Schnitzelbank. My meal will consist of the following:
Krautballs, Potato Pancakes and Fried Mushrooms to start.
Followed by the German Sampler Plater (my 3 selections will be Goulash, Bratwurst & Kassler Rippchen).
You cannot beat it! Just pray with me that the Stadium has ample restroom facilities…..
