Bosse grad Pendleton transferring from SIU

Jalen Pendleton, a 6-foot-2 junior guard from Bosse High School, is transferring from Southern Illinois University at the end of the spring semester, SIU coach Barry Hinson announced Tuesday.
Pendleton, who lifted the Bulldogs to the 2012 Class 3A semistate, was Hinson’s first recruit when he became SIU’s coach that spring. Pendleton scored the final six points in a victory over nationally-ranked Wichita State as a freshman, including the go-ahead basket with two seconds showing. He averaged 9.1 points as a sophomore and was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Bench team. Pendleton topped the 20-point barrier in three games and scored the game-winning basket with 5.6 seconds left to beat Loyola on Jan. 8, 2014.
But his scoring average dipped to 6.6 as a junior, even though he started 14 games.
Pendleton is the third SIU player to transfer, joining freshman guards Chaz Glotta and K.C. Goodwin. He finished the year as the second-leading career scorer (643) and leading rebounder (271) on the Salukis’ roster.
“Jalen has been an instrumental part of the rebuilding process during the past three years and we appreciate his contributions,” Hinson said in a statement. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
