South Spencer grad Monar released by Nationals

Blake Monar, who once lifted South Spencer to a Class 2A state championship, has been released by the Auburn Doubledays, an affiliate of the Washington Nationals.

Monar, a lefthander, was selected in the 12th round of the 2011 major league amateur draft. He posted a 6-3 record with a 3.52 earned run average that spring with the Indiana Hoosiers.

He was assigned to Auburn, the Nationals’ affiliate in the Class A short-season New York-Penn League.

Monar pitched for the Doubledays in 2011 and 2012. He posted a 2-3 record last summer with a 3.29 ERA, making 12 starts.
