Newburgh resident Delgado strong for Binghamton

Newburgh resident Casey Delgado allowed just one run in eight innings in gaining the win in the Binghamton Mets’ 6-1 victory over host Erie Wednesday night in a Double-A Eastern League game.

Delgado, an undrafted free agent out of Austin Peay in 2013, has climbed up the minor league ladder. He pitched for the traveling Frontier Greys and Traverse City in the Frontier League, before signing with the Mets last summer. He pitched for Class A Savannah last season and began this year with Class A St. Lucie.

After going 4-0 with a 2.67 earned run average for St. Lucie, Delgado was promoted to Binghamton, where he has posted a 3-2 record with a 3.77 earned run average in five starts.

About Gordon Engelhardt

Many moons ago, I was a semipro baseball pitcher and my love for the grand old game continues unabated. I was lucky enough to cover the White Sox in the 1983 ALCS and the Cubbies in the 1984 NLCS while living in northern Illinois. I have covered several Cardinals games, but never in postseason.
