Pitcher Eddie Medina signs with Otters

Eddie Medina, who posted a 4-1 record last year with the Las Vegas Train Robbers of the Pecos League, signed a contract Monday with the Evansville Otters.

He averaged nearly a strikeout per inning and recorded a 3.95 earned run average in 18 appearances with the Train Robbers, including 10 starts.

“Eddie was a quality pitcher at St. John’s and he threw well at our Nashville camp,” Otters manager Andy McCauley said in a written statement. “He will be competing for a starting job on this year’s team.”

Medina is the fourth player Evansville has signed from its tryout camp. He joins catcher John Harris, infielder Josh Allen and lefthanded pitcher Jon Jones.

“I’m looking forward to playing for Andy, establishing myself as a vital part of the pitching staff and bringing Evansville back to its winning ways,” Medina said.

At. St. John’s, Medina had a 14-7 record with a career 4.73 ERA.

About Gordon Engelhardt

Many moons ago, I was a semipro baseball pitcher and my love for the grand old game continues unabated. I was lucky enough to cover the White Sox in the 1983 ALCS and the Cubbies in the 1984 NLCS while living in northern Illinois. I have covered several Cardinals games, but never in postseason.
