Local players Carroll, Barrett shine against Cardinals

Jamey Carroll is a veteran infielder fighting for a spot on the Washington Nationals’ roster while Aaron Barrett has made a major league 40-man roster for the first time in his career.

Carroll, a Castle High School and University of Evansville graduate, and Barrett, a Central product, both helped their stock on Saturday as the Nats played the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-4 tie in 10 innings in exhibition action at Jupiter, Fla.

Carroll delivered an RBI single and Barrett retired all four batters he faced in relief.

About Gordon Engelhardt

Many moons ago, I was a semipro baseball pitcher and my love for the grand old game continues unabated. I was lucky enough to cover the White Sox in the 1983 ALCS and the Cubbies in the 1984 NLCS while living in northern Illinois. I have covered several Cardinals games, but never in postseason.
