Why doesn't Indiana just reject all this federal intervention into our state? The last sentence, "...IF the US Department of Health and Human Services will LET the State." That just makes me sick! We are losing our State sovereignty and the federal government is intent on bankrupting us so as to more easily absorb us. We are losing our identity and our legislators are doing nothing to stop it. I'm ashamed our country has fallen so far in the past few decades and am afraid we'll never see economic freedom again.

I taught for 33 years, and was appalled when I discovered that so many of our sixth graders could not read cursive writing. I have always had cursive writing in my curriculum, and when we had extra minutes in the school day, we'd work on it! I think it's very important for all students to be able to read and write cursive. That said, it doesn't mean they would ever have to use it. Because of technology, everything is in manuscript, but it would be a shame to NOT be able to read and write cursive .
There is a transition from manuscript to cursive and I believe it begins as early as second grade. I believe it needs to be put back into the curriculum, even though today's curriculum is tough at all grade levels, teachers can always find 15-20 minutes a day to develop this skill.

This is a great move by Sen. Kruse. I have been concerned that other bills that have been introduced will try to circumvent the 1.4 million voters who elected Glenda Ritz. I have been very worried about the democratic election process in Indiana. This is also a positive sign of some common sense in the legislature.

Thank you Senator Kenley for your candor and your wisdom. I do feel that this is one more attempt to undermine public education and starve the entire system. Furthermore, I am pretty angry that I am being forced to support religious organizations that have beliefs that are different or even counter to my own. I feel that it is a gross misuse of public funds to support religious training. I, for one, am not ready to give authority over my tax dollar to a for-profit education system either. I believe that education should be supported by its community and that community should decide what values the institution will instill in its youth. I do not want to see the power of what will be taught to youth taken away from the parents and the community that support the child.

Please vote "no" on this proposition!
