Santa

Everyone loves a cute picture with Santa, well everyone that is except my son.

We haven’t really had a “santa” talk with Miles about who Santa is or what he does so really he’s just a dude with a beard and a white suit to Miles.

Jolly ol’ Saint Nick is the subject of our advent calendar though. We have a cut out Santa who’s beard acts as a countdown. Each evening we glue a white cotton ball to his beard. When we get to Christmas Day, the beard will be full and the final day is a red cotton ball for Santa’s nose. So each night Miles sweetly says, “We do Santa now?”

His first Christmas we had plenty of opportunities to get good shots of Miles with Santa. We did the traditional mall santa and then during a Christmas event in downtown Anderson (where we were living at the time) we had the opportunity to visit a few more SantasĀ — Saint Nicholas at a local Episocopal church and Father Christmas at a historical home.

Last year we couldn’t even walk by Santa without tears so there were zero pics with him. This year, Miles eventually warmed up to Santa. During the Courier & Press’ Christmas party Picture Editor Kevin Swank dons a velvety Santa suit with his wife Sue portraying a sweet Mrs. Claus. Kevin is the perfect Santa. He has a naturally jovial demeanor and grows a mean whispy white beard.

Miles was hesitant at first, but by the end of the night he was showing Santa his favorite app on my iPhone. We couldn’t convince him to get on Santa’s lap by himself though.

Send me your favorite pictures of your kids with Santa — abbey.doyle@courierpress.com. I’ve seen some hilarious galleries online and would love to share some great ones with our readers too!
