Throwback Thursday — Halloween style

I’m a big fan of Halloween! And so far, Miles has been OK with it. My mom was the queen of Halloween costumes (I’ll have to wrangle up a few costume shots for a future blog.) She started out small with our first Halloween; my sister and I were devils, appropriate I’m sure.

But in other years she sewed eleaborate costumes. I had a head to toe zebra costume one year (mane and all) that was awesome; my sister had a mermaid costume with the tail and fins and everything. We also were pretty creative. One year we were Hans and Frans from Saturday Night Live. We wore sweatsuits stuffed with newspaper muscles and went door to day saying, “Hi I’m Frans and this is my brother Hans and we are are to TRICK-OR-TREAT.” Just a few years ago I was Scarlett O’hara making my own hoop skirt using two different sized hula hoops. It was definitely a challenge to drive in that costume! I was an adult Tinker Bell another year. This year I’m kind of taking an easy way out — flapper girl. I have an AMAZING headband made from a vintage hat that is so 1920s that it should make the outfit. I’m wearing my own dress, as flappery as I could find, and adding fishnet pantyhose and a long strand of pearls. Miles will be a nerd (AKA a Star Trek something or other.) I’ll post pics. Unlike my mom, I’ve not been amazingly clever with his costumes. He actually wore the same costume for both his first and second Halloween. This year it is different!
