Muddy, muddy day

I worked Sunday so I took Friday off from work with grand plans for the day.

I’d planted several things in pots a few weeks ago but needed to repot a few in larger pots, plant some in the ground and pot a few new things I’d been given by my editor. Friday morning was reserved for gardening and then the afternoon the Doyle fam was going to head out to Burdette Park Aquatic Center.

Miles has gone swimming a few times and we thought it would be the perfect day to go for the first time this season. Most of his swimming sessions have been at the YMCA pool or in a hotel. And this weekend we are planning a trip to Holiday World so I thought introducing him to an outdoor water park setting would be a good idea.

But thunder and lots and lots of rain put a literal damper on things. Michael had an eye doctor’s appointment that morning so he left Miles and me at the house. We started to go stir crazy, rain drizzling away. I decided, why let the rain ruin our plans.

Miles and I put on “play clothes” and water shoes and headed outside in the pouring rain. We stomped in puddles, squished around mud and planted a few things.

What a fun day! Before I knew it, Michael was home and we’d been outside dancing and playing in the rain in mud for two hours. Both of us were soaked to the bone with mud and rain. It was time to go in.

The idea of going inside, even after more than two hours playing outside, was the WORST thing ever for my little guy. The tears and screams were heart-breaking, but when he finally learned that he was going from outside directly to the bathtub (a close second to playing outside) his little heart was soothed.

I’m loving my memories with this little guy.
